Michael has been an avid cyclist since his teens, beginning his involvement in the sport while working at a bike shop and racing from the age of 15. He has lived and ridden extensively throughout San Diego County for over 30 years, competing in road, cyclocross, mountain, and endurance events, including a podium finish at the 24 Hours of Old Pueblo.

His passion for travel has taken him cycling across the western United States and throughout Europe, including Andorra, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Slovenia. He has made four trips to ride and spectate stages of the Tour de France, with favorite climbs including Alpe d’Huez, Col du Galibier, Mont Ventoux, and Col d’Aubisque. His long-distance cycling journey began in high school with a bike tour from Vermont to Canada.

Michael’s early years in the sport were shaped by modest beginnings, saving diligently to purchase his first quality touring bike, which he rode for more than a decade. As mountain biking emerged, he progressed through several bikes over the years, reflecting both his growing experience and lifelong commitment to cycling.

Outside of riding, Michael enjoys perfecting his espresso routine and works part-time at a bike shop, where he sells bikes and accessories. Twice a month he leads the shop group road and gravel rides. In 2025 he traveled to Europe three times for cycling trips in Portugal and Spain. He is trying to plan his next trip, but can’t can’t decide between France, Spain, or Italy.
