The southern most city in North County San Diego is La Jolla. It is considered one of the most picturesque beach towns in all of San Diego, often referred to as “The Jewel.” But the name is most likely of Kumeyaay origin (an indigenous population) meaning “land of holes.” La Jolla bicycle tours ride past the caves on the seaside cliffs, but to venture into them you are best to rent a kayak. San Diego guided bicycle rides are the perfect way to view what La Jolla has to offer cyclists.
Why Choose La Jolla Bicycle Tours?
La Jolla stretches from Torrey Pines and UCSD at the north all the way past La Jolla Shores, downtown La Jolla and to Bird Rock in the south. It has many friendly bike routes and some that do require mastering the art of avoiding tourist rental cars. With coffee shops, bakeries, incredible ocean views, sea lions, and Mt. Soledad, La Jolla bicycle tours are some of the most popular bike destinations.

The La Jolla Bicycle Tours Loop
Starting at the top of Torrey Pines there are several ways to navigate down to the beach. Luckily, we know which way is the most scenic and safest. One way has the most traffic and the other is downright dangerous at times. As we head south, we will pass by public beaches and even a $100 million mansion sitting on the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean. The bicycle tour continues into the Village of La Jolla where we can roll past SCUBA divers, and sea lions at the Children’s Pool.
The La Jolla bicycle tour continues south on a sort of bike path weaving in and out of the coast as we pass through beaches and cliff top mansions. Eventually we arrive at Bird Rock where pastries and coffee await.
Mt. Soledad Bicycle Rides
Mount Soledad or Soledad Mountain is a prominent landmark in San Diego. At the top is the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial with views of the city, Mission Bay, Ocean and beyond. There are several challenging ways to ride your bicycle to the top. On Thanksgiving you can even join in a fun bike ride that challenges you to ride up every option. Some of the routes are what we would say are “more fun” to climb while others are downright “nasty” and nothing we would take you up. The climb is well worth the effort and there is a large grassy area with benches from which to enjoy the spectacular view.
Other La Jolla Bicycle Tour Routes
San Diego Coffee Rides is known for their well-paced leisurely bicycle rides. Don’t worry if you don’t want to climb Mt. Soledad. We can easily avoid all the climbing if that is your thing. If you are willing to do a bit of climbing, we have options for some great scenic loops and even a fun downhill bike path.
